Setup Guide Power BI
Detailed guide for the setup of Power BI reports
Once data extraction and processing are completed within zapAnalytics, the Power BI report templates need to be opened using Power BI Desktop for importing the results from the zapAnalytics result files. This will create Power BI reports that are accessible locally, serving as the basis for the workshop session.
To proceed, please ensure Power BI Desktop is installed where necessary. The following options are available:
-
-
Installation via Microsoft Store: Power BI Desktop can be downloaded and installed for free directly from the Microsoft Store.
-
Download from the Microsoft website: The latest version of Power BI Desktop can also be downloaded for free from Microsoft's official website.
-
Power BI Templates and zapAnalytics Result Files
zapAnalytics produces output files as defined in the content bundle. This typically includes zapAnalytics result files (.parquet) and Power BI template files (.pbit).
The output consists of:
-
-
Power BI Templates (.pbit): Template files for report creation. The download section in zapAnalytics looks like this:

- zapAnalytics Result Files (.parquet): Processed data files as source files. Serve as input for Power BI and MCP servers.
-
Power BI Report (.pbix): After importing the .parquet files in the .pbit, you can save the PowerBI Report as a .pbix file. These files are independent of zapAnalytics.
-
How to Create Power BI Reports
The following steps are necessary to create the two Power BI reports:
- Download the zapAnalytics .paruet result files, unzip the folder and copy the file path.

- Open one of the Power BI template files (pbit) and insert the file path of the zapAnalytics result file. Click the Load button to generate the Power BI report.

Depending on the parquet file size, data loading may take up to 10 minutes. - The following settings must be configured for the user within the Power BI templates to achieve smooth and consistent reporting.
Please proceed as follows:
Open File → Options and Settings → Options.
Under Report Settings, navigate to Query Limit Simulations.
Select Premium Capacity as the preferred option.
- The Power BI report must be saved in the .pbix file format:

Please ensure that this report is shared with the end user as well as with zapliance for the purpose of workshop preparation.
